Our sampling sites : What streams are we investigating in our research?
Much of our research is based on four stream sites around Auckland , ranging from almost pristine streams, surrounded by native bush in the Waitakere ranges, through to wholly artificial waterways in an urban setting.

This enables us to compare stream biofilm characteristics across a range of "impact levels", and thus to determine how stream biofilms are affected by their surrounding catchment area.We also collect data on the physical characteristics of each site: light, flow speed, pH and dissolved oxygen levels, and the size of the stream.
